How did I get so lucky

As the season winds down for “The Haves and the Have Nots” i find myself wondering how it could be that I’ve been around for so long.

I remember, as a kid, watching shows with Bill Bixby: My Favorite Martian, The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, The Magician and then Th Hulk and thinking “This guy is the hardest working actor in show business!”

Little did I know that, at 54, I would be so fortunate to have been in a different landmark show for several generations.

Consider these: The Dukes of Hazzard, Dr. Quinn, Walker Texas Ranger, Nip Tuck, Smallville, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Desperate Housewives, Hot in Cleveland, Leverage, Mistresses and now The Haves and the Have Nots.

I was having a conversation with someone my age yesterday and someone very young happened to be in the room. She didn’t know Dukes or Smallville so I said “Wait… I’ll get you.” I figured her for around twenty-three so I said “Secret Life. I was Marshall Bowman.” This girl lit up like a Christmas tree and told me all about my character and how the writer had destroyed my stellar reputation posthumously.

How cool is it to have been a part of so many people’s lives? Amazingly cool. I truly am the luckiest actor in showbiz to have such loyal fans and to have had them for so long.

And now… with you HHN fans? You all are off the charts! Thank you for loving the show and loving to hate me on it. What a blast I have on the Addicts of the Haves and the Have Nots page! You all are too much.

Enjoy the show tonight… just 2 more left… and get ready for what’s coming next week. I guarantee you that nobody will see it coming!

Thanks you all for keeping me around all these years. I’ll do my best to keep finding movies and television that makes you want to continue. If I missed your favorite show up there in the list, I’m sorry. I forget things sometimes and wanted to get this out before the show came on tonight and I have a studio to build!

Purpose

I was a fat kid.

Yup.. I weighed 250 or so when i was 16 and still had it in my head that I was going to be a movie star.

“How many obese movie stars do you know?” asked my brother Bob that summer of 1976 when I had just wolfed down another corn dog at Six Flags.

He was right…

I didn’t know any. John Goodman had yet to do his first ever movie with me (Eddie Macon’s Run).

I decided to lose the weight and get into the best shape of my life. I knew that I was supposed to do something with my life. I knew it. Felt it in my bones… right there under all that fat. So I made a decision…  right then and there.

2 months later I had dropped 50 pounds.

Guess I’m one of those people who, when they put their mind to something they really put their mind to it.

I’m telling you this because I just heard that my fitness group, TEAM RIPPED DUKE has collectively lost over 4,000 pounds in the last 2 years. Continue reading Purpose

let me set this straight

People often hear what they want to hear. It’s not only foreign languages that need translating…

I’m going to say it. I’m going to say it loud…

Ready..?

Here it comes…

I LOVE BEING BO!

BO AND ARROW
John “Bo” Schneider on the set at 18! Not Bo “John” Schneider. There’s a difference!

I can think of no greater honor or privilege than having a youngster look up to me. I get that every day with the Dukes. Now that it’s back on CMT I get it even more and from increasingly younger little guys and gals.  Continue reading let me set this straight

you asked for it

Okay… maybe you didn’t all ask for it but several folks have said “What’s this censored thing all about? I can handle the real deal!”

You know who you are! This is the UNCENSORED John Schneider’s Smothered trailer!

Do you dare watch it alone?

I’m only reacting to peer pressure!

one stop shopping

All,

It is a new year and I made a promise to myself  to learn and design a word press site so I could finally keep up with all that is going on in my crazy head/world.

Well… I did it!

Please feel free to come look around. Read a little. Shop a little. Look at a video or two. You know… kick the tires and take it for a spin like the good old General Lee or Jonathan Kent’s faithful work truck.

At thejohnschneider.com you will find info on past shows, shows that are coming back soon and some that may never come back. There are videos and music and interviews and stores and links to bands and composers who made smothered possible.

It will also tell you when I’ll be somewhere like at the tribeca hilton next Monday and Tuesday for the pre party and premiere of the 2nd season of Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots.

In short… I am only going to go to thejohnschneider.com from now on at least 90% of the time so I can keep up with this ever changing world of technology that we find ourselves living in.

I know that some will be upset with this decision but it was either get in manageable or let the whole house of cards fall down.

I prefer it this way. Hopefully you will to. If not… well… a wise man once said that you should never trust someone who everyone agrees with because that person is lying.

I liked that guy. Smart fella. Anyway…

Feel free to comment on my blogs or drop a note right there on my site. I’ll get to everything that comes here as quickly as possible and respond to most. Be patient with me though as I am still figuring out what the hell a widget is and how it effects my life!

BTW… I reserve the right to post your comments on my blog. In fact… I think it does it automatically and randomly. So be yourself, Always.

I am going to be honest on the blog. Up front and sometimes blunt. I’m going to be that way because that’s the way I am. Often times people want to put people into a box that they design for them. Not for me. No more of that from 2014 and on.

In the spirit of honesty I am putting what I’m told by many is the worst picture ever taken of me right here for all to see. It happens to be one of my favorite pictures of all time. See..? Odd. Here it is:

Some will be enlightened occasionally, some offended occasionally. I can’t help it. I am going to write my blogs the way I write my screenplays: From the heart. From experience. From my often odd perspective.

Hang on. It’s going to be a heck of a ride!

Happy New Year!
